CKMS PTSA CommitteesThe activities and programs listed below are provided by your PTSA at Chief Kanim Middle School. Contact the committee Chair for more information and to volunteer. Join us in supporting Chief Kanim Middle School and enhancing the learning environment of our children! (To contact officers of the PTSA executive board, see our contact page. 8th Grade CelebrationChair: Liz Piekarczyk Description:Plan and organize a festive evening for 8th graders in June, to follow the 8th grade graduation ceremony. Activity BlitzChairs: Jennifer Curd and Melissa Bluher Description:Help organize the Activity Blitz, which informs students about youth activities and programs in our communities. Activity Blitz events are held during student lunch hour two days each year: once in October (for community activities and programs available during the school year) and once in May (for summer activities and programs). Art GalleryChair: Kristin Minner Description:Work with Art teacher to collect and display student artwork. Work with Art teacher to collect and display student artwork, and host a CKMS Art Show at some point during the school year. Book FairChairs: Tammy Klupar and Renae Gieseke Description:Runs the Fall and Spring Book Fairs. Directory & MembershipChairs: Steve Hollasch and Lori Cobb Description:Committee encourages parents, students, staff, and community members to join PTSA with the objective of strengthening the family unit through involvement at school. Activities include collecting fees, processing members in the WSPTA system, maintaining accurate membership records, compiling student data, and creating and distributing directories to PTSA members. Family SocialsChairs: Sarah Barnes, Sandy Chapman, Stacey Gardner, and Connie Rosenberger Description:Plan and organize family social events such as the Back-to-School Welcome Barbeque and Ice Cream Social. Financial ReviewChair: Robin Schmitt Description:Serve on committee to perform two reviews of finances. Each review takes about 2–3 hours. GrantsChair: Betsy Evensen Description:Offer two rounds of teacher/technology grant funding for student enrichment in the classroom and around the school (first two trimesters). This includes setting grant application deadlines, providing grant applications to teachers and staff, reviewing all grant requests with committee members, and making funding decisions based on CKMS PTSA’s grant budget that best benefit the students at CKMS. Hanging BasketsChairs: Liz Phillips and Linda Shaw Description:Advertise, sell, tally and help deliver flower baskets in May. This is a key fundraiser for CKMS PTSA. Hospitality/BakingChair: Miranda Thorpe Description:Provide food for bake sales, staff appreciation, PTSA meetings, etc. Magazine DriveChair: Sandy Chapman Description:Work with the ASB to tally orders and money and distribute prizes for the Fall Magazine Drive. No Effort FundraisingChairs: Lois Bauer and Jennifer Curd Description:The PTSA vice presidents are responsible for promoting and handling fundraising opportunities that are of “no effort” to CKMS parents, such as handing in Box Tops, shopping through eScrip, becoming a Community Partner when shopping at Albertsons, advertising local businesses through snoqualmieridge.org, and so forth. Nominating CommitteeChairs: Zeeba Baccetti, Fran Ellul, Stacey Gardner, Susan Husa, and Michele Madani Description:The nominating committee recognizes and recruits the most qualified people for the PTSA positions available in the next year. It is the most important committee in the PTSA. Per PTSA bylaws, all PTSA officers are up for every re-election every year. PoinsettiasChairs: Liz Phillips and Linda Shaw Description:Help advertise, sell, tally and sort plants in November/December. Public PolicyChair: Cathy Renner Description:Serve on PTSA advocacy committee, attend PTSA Legislative Assembly. Educate and motivate members to carry out the Washington State PTA to be advocates for all students. The committee attends monthly board meetings and stays informed about legislative issues, writes letters and make calls to legislators on behalf of issues that impact our children. RaffleChair: Char Yotz Description:Procure items, sell tickets and/or help the evening of the drawing which is held during the Winter Carnival. School DancesChairs: Caroline Mancini and Nancy Carroll Description:Assist in planning, set-up, snacks, decorations and clean-up for student dances throughout the year. Staff AppreciationChairs: Julie Peterson and Dee Gillespie Description:Help organize staff appreciation throughout the year. Sweatshirt/T-ShirtChair: Carrie Lee Description:Assist with school-wide shirt sale and distribution. Volunteer NetworkChair: Miranda Thorpe Description:Manages the recruitment and placement of committee volunteers, acting as a resource and advisor for committee chairs. Winter CarnivalChair: Angela Bolen Description:Help with planning, setting up, working, cashiering, selling tickets/concessions etc. |
